That's So Gay!
The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and the Ad Council have partnered together to start a new campaign called Think B4 You Speak. Props to Wanda Sykes and Hilary Duff for their participation. The core audience for this campaign is teenagers to cut down bullying and harrassment of LGBT teenagers in school. The thought is that if bullying and harrassment can be curbed, so will the amount of physical violence.

While I love the ads, I wonder how often the phrase, “That’s so gay!” is being uttered by someone that is gay. I see it as the same thing as black people calling themselves the N-word or women referring to themselves as bitches. Does the phrase still sting if you are in fact gay?
Did you see the discussion between Whoopi Goldberg and her “The View” counterparts about the “N” word?
